11/2 +3 Arrival
Barb drove from Minneapolis, the rest of us flew to Detroit, changed planes and flew on to Elmira where Barb picked us up. She had rented an Air BnB house for us. It was a 3 story house, built in 1895 and we had the entire 3rd story to our ourselves. After a good night’s sleep (or at least a decent night’s sleep) we older folks got up and visited for a while. Eventually Margaret went to take a shower. She came out after a bit and said the water never got warm, in fact she got in and out quickly because the water was too cool. I thought maybe if I ran the water longer, it would get hot. Alas it did not, so I took a washcloth bath. Barb notified the landlords who live on the 1st floor. It turned out they had a broken pipe in the basement. A plumber was called and by the time we left, the pipe was repaired. The owners were very apologetic and gave us a bag of goodies when we left.

This is our Air BnB. We had the whole 3rd floor. Caroline’s room was in that turret with all the windows.

We had brunch in downtown Corning and then went the Corning Glass Museum. Our classes start on Monday and we get free tickets to visit the museum at that time so we just visited the gift shop, which was quite extensive. We had time to kill before we could check in to the Thomas Watson Conference Center where Road Scholars was housing the folks in our class. We did a little sight-seeing then sat around in the lobby of the Center until our rooms were available.
After checking in, we visited with our fellow classmates and then had supper. After supper our group leader - Debbie gave us a orientation on what to expect this week. It sounds fun. After orientation two of us went to our rooms and two of us started a jigsaw puzzle. After an hour we puzzlers were tired and so we toddled off to our rooms.

These are purported to be the largest glass pumpkins in the known universe. We won’t be making anything nearly that big.
